Gulwali Passarlay, who originates from Afghanistan came to the UK in 2007 as an unaccompanied minor where he applied for asylum. In his book, The Lightless Sky, he tells his incredibly moving personal story of his year-long travels across Europe as a 12 year old boy. Sent away after his father was killed in a gun battle with the US Army he made the perilous journey alone surviving prison, hunger, a journey across the Mediterranean sea in a tiny cramped boat and endured the squalid conditions of the Calais "Jungle" before finally arriving in the UK. A gripping story from the outset, this book will open the eyes, hearts and minds of everyone that reads it.
